Little Landscapes
Amy Grace Laura

About the work
Little Landscapes is a sensory, durational free-play installation and an intimate theatre performance designed for young children and their grown-ups. Rooted in the textures and patterns of the natural world, the work invites audiences into a quiet, playful environment where tiny worlds unfurl and imagination meets memory.
The project is informed by Schema Learning theory, with a particular focus on enclosure, enveloping, positioning, and connection, patterns of play that naturally emerge in early childhood. These schemas are woven seamlessly into the performance structure, inviting intuitive engagement and gentle exploration. Phonics also plays a subtle role; small wooden letters appear among the object collections, offering moments of sound recognition and early language play.
Little Landscapes is crafted to feel both familiar and enchanting. It offers a moment of pause in a busy world, where children and their adults can come together in quiet creativity. The work honours the smallness of things, the detail of a leaf, the sound of a seed pod, and invites audiences to notice, touch, listen, and play. Ultimately, the project is a celebration of nature, storytelling, and collaborative discovery, shaped with care and attuned to the ways young children learn and make meaning.
