About the work

6IXHAND is a Te Whanganui-a-Tara–based DJ collective featuring ggrraayy, miamia, AverageJay and Kayseeyuh. Formed in October 2021, the collective is grounded in the sounds, stories, and musical lineages of POC communities — from Aotearoa to Africa, and across the Islands they call home.

Their sets weave today’s hits with the unmistakable nostalgia of music you’d hear at your uncle’s garage drink-up, all the way to tracks that headline festivals like Coachella. Blending genres, eras, and cultural touchpoints, 6IXHAND creates an atmosphere that feels like home for POC in the room — energetic, familiar, and joyfully alive.

At every event, the collective aims to hold space where people can show up exactly as they are. Their kaupapa is simple: to cultivate an environment that’s inviting, expressive, and above all, a damn good time.

In Wellington’s evolving DJ landscape, 6IXHAND sees room for new voices and new energy. With few spaces currently uplifting collectives like theirs, they’re excited to be part of a movement bringing something fresh, necessary, and unapologetically vibrant to the city.
