Taking a step into Wellington’s arts and cultural scene can be daunting. Whether you’ve come to the little-big-city for the first time as an end-of-summer-getaway or you’re a local who attends a different performance every week, it’s not hard to become overwhelmed by the amount of things going on around you. At The Performance Arcade, we’ve taken the liberty of easing this stress, with the help of a single pink line.
Spanning across two kilometres of Wellington’s waterfront, The Pink Line will act as a guide to ensure you are able to witness the full variety of creative works that the city has to offer. A walk down the line will take you to the harbour side cafes, bars, museums and galleries, where different performance installations will be plotted.
The Pink Line will also introduce the Queen’s Wharf Summer Series — an exciting new collaboration between The Performance Arcade and Wellington City Council, featuring a programme of free live music and activities for the whole family to enjoy.
The Summer Series kicks off this Saturday 25 January and will run every Saturday until 29 February. Each week, our eyes and ears will be blessed with different live music and interactive activities for all ages. It’s the perfect excuse to get the whole family out of the house, a date night where you don’t have to do anything but enjoy yourself, or a perfect place to catch up with the pals after a long week at work. Why not make it a six-week-long tradition? There will be designated areas for you to sit back and relax right after you’ve tried one of the discounted dinners at the highly acclaimed restaurants and bars nearby. If that’s not your scene, we’ll have food trucks for you to grab a sneaky bite while you soak in the vibrant atmosphere. Don’t forget to document the night and post your photos to social media with #UnderTheSails - we’d love to see you enjoying the night!
If you’re in Wellington for the whole summer, keep popping back to the pink line, especially towards the end of February when The Performance Arcade will be in action with a preview weekend kicking off on 22 February, and a full lineup of musical and performance artists from 26 February - 1 March. More performances and presentations will be added as the New Zealand Festival of the Arts is in full swing from 21 February - 15 March. Wellington, you’re in for an entertaining few months of arts and cultural immersion from all over the world!
