Kate Ashworth | Spatial Design Lead

I was born and grew up on Waiheke Island, surrounded by the water of Tīkapa Moana. My family came by boat from Oxford to Tāmaki Makaurau in the 60s, and my ancestors are Jewish and English. Substituting high school for the local community library and a secondhand bookshop, I was always surrounded by books & stories. I spent three years travelling before starting to study Spatial Design at Massey University, where I am now entering my fourth year. I became involved with The Performance Arcade as a spatial intern in 2022, an assistant role in 2022, and I am returning for 2023. Over the summer, you will likely find me reading in my favourite cafe on the water.

Nick Batey

Nick Batey | Production Manager

Nicholas (Nick) Batey is a Performing Arts Manager & Technician based in Pōneke, Wellington. Originally from sunny Hawkes Bay, Nick moved to Wellington to spend the last three years studying at Toi Whakaari. After Production Managing Toi Whakaari’s productions ‘Clean up in Aisle 3’ (2021) and ‘mimic another’ (2022), Nick graduated with a Bachelor of Performing Arts Management degree. Joining The Performance Arcade in 2023 as the Production Manager, he is excited to put the training and skills he has learnt into practice!

Josef Belton | Spatial Design Intern

Born in Ōtepoti, I lived and travelled overseas before being reeled back to beautiful Aotearoa in March 2020. I cycled my life and things up the country to Te Whanganui-a-Tara to study at Massey University, where I am currently in my third year of a Spatial Design degree. I am a fresh intern at The Performance Arcade where I have been contributing my design skills to the celebration of art and performance, two great passions of mine. When I'm not making things at the Arcade or at Uni, I am probably making a great meal, or making my skateboard go really really fast.

Tyler Clarke |  Co-Marketing Manager

Tyler Clarke (she/her) is a theatre producer and publicist based in Pōneke, Wellington. After completing a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Theatre at VUW in 2019 she dove into the Wellington Theatre industry. She began her career as a stage manager, working on productions such as TRANSMISSION at BATS Theatre in 2020 and Secret Lives of Sixteen Year Old Girls, also at BATS Theatre, in 2021.

At the end of 2021, Tyler was proudly awarded a Best Newcomer Award at the Wellington Theatre Awards. Since then she has thrown herself into producing and publicity. Just this year, she has worked on a number of exciting projects, such as Cringeworthy - The 80s, Wonderkind, Wednesday to Come and Tea With Terrorists, all at Circa Theatre. Tyler also works part time for the New Zealand String Quartet as their Marketing and Administration Coordinator.

I am a continual learner and the vast differences in this broad range of disciplines allows me to constantly explore new worlds of design. Making art is also cool af (especially performance) and I’m super excited for PA2023!

Ilya Merrifield | Artist Liaison

Born in Tāmaki Makaurau, I moved down the North Island to Pōneke 5 years ago to study Fine Arts at Massey University. I'll finally graduate from the College of Creative Arts in a few months with a BFA Hons. I'm lucky to be back at the Arcade after working as the production & operations intern last year. This time around, I'm excited to work with the artists themselves and the fantastic performances they're all bringing to the festival! Outside the Arcade, you'll find me making art, whistling off-tune and figuring out how to be a carpenter.
