Natural Basic

Set in a suspended moment after something unnamed has transpired, three dancers pivot to the rhythmic cadence of a waltz. Their bodies refuse easy synthesis as patterns gradually layer twist, transform, and lock into a discordant synchronization. We zoom in, we zoom out. This cinematic choreographic work asks us to attune our senses, our grasp of time might not be enough for the complex reality we navigate. Past, present, and future converge in a continuous dance.

Rebecca Jensen is a dancer, choreographer and teacher based in Narrm Melbourne and born and raised in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa. She is inspired by the equally speculative and practical forces of dance practice. Her choreography is presented in theatres, galleries, screens, and public spaces, spilling into spaces between disciplines. For PA2024, Rebecca Jensen will present Natural Basic. This work began development as a part of her Resident director position at Lucy Guerin inc and her residency at Cite des Arts, Paris 2023. This work will be presented in an outdoor context for The Performance Arcade's waterfront series. Natural Basic is a work in progress, so check back here in January for more information.
