Miles Calder

Psychedelic Folk-Rock

(Pōneke / Wellington)

“If you like Kurt Vile, or Father John Misty, or The Phoenix Foundation, you might quite like this.” - Charlotte Ryan, RNZ Music 101

Miles Calder is a far too self-reflective songwriter from Wellington who's been waking up from unconscious monotony. His recent album Autopilot Life, lyrically wanders through different stages of living an unexamined life, while Miles and his band move between understated folk-rock and swirling psychedelia, evoking early 70s Lennon as much as contemporaries like Kevin Morby or Father John Misty.

"When you spend time with the album, it's clear how realised his sound actually is. He's not afraid to stretch out run times or get a bit psychedelic. Mostly these songs are vehicles for him to patiently philosophise about life over unhurried, pristine arrangements. They're dreamy for sure, but he's wide awake." - Tony Stamp, RNZ Music 101

Miles’ five piece band presents a dynamic new live show with a psych-tinged palette of cascading synths, atmospheric noise, and searing guitar solos to complement the frontman’s superb vocals.

“Miles Calder takes us back, back in time to days when rock sounded like everything and we didn’t get tongue tied by genre gyrations. It’s both familiar and timeless. Outstanding songs. Outstanding band.” - Radio 13
