We Spoke is a suspended visual conversation inside a transparent but contained and closed space, insulated from the wind. Constructed from found objects which have been deconstructed by the wind. Conversation can be activated from outside, by a physical action which becomes invisible. Converse - a turn, turned inside out, counter narrative. Disconnection and reconnection has occurred in the structures and continues to happen through the visible effects of engaging in conversation. The conversation turned; blown out of proportion, back peddle, invisible reconnection, a whisper on the wind from outside in. Peddle, engage breath join in the conversation.
CANDACE SMITH NEW ZEALAND
Candace Smith lives and works in Wellington. Her work consists primarily of temporary constructions and assemblages. Which appear in both urban and natural environments. Usually small scale, quiet interventions made from deconstructed found objects, reassembled in unexpected and borrowed spaces. The installations are conversation in motion, at times weighty, at time light hearted, but always seeking balance.
